"Our Life Is Very Good"

Christmas is just around the corner.  I'm ready, are you?

My visit with my Marietta, GA, family this weekend has been rescheduled due to the flu that my granddarling Rea's had all week.  I was very disappointed, but it gave me the opportunity to attend my oldest granddarling's book signing.

Lo was asked by Steve Little, a fellow church member, to illustrate a children's book he was writing.  The book is about Ana, an 11-year old girl who lives in a remote and impoverished area of Belize, he met while on a mission trip with other members of our church.

He chose Lo as the illustrator because she has been to Belize several times on mission trips and he was familiar with her artwork.

Ana lives with her family in a two-room house, with no glass windows, electricity, or running water, yet she feels blessed and that her life "is very good."  It's a sweet story and beautifully illustrated.

Lo is a freshman at  Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, where she is enjoying her autonomy and majoring in independence.  She does, however, see art in her future.  We are so proud of her; there were about 20 pictures in the book...she spent hours on each.

The McDowell News had a wonderful article about the book.   If you are so inclined, you can find it here.

The book signing was held at MACA (McDowell Arts Council Association).  Our area has many talented artists and craftmen who sell their items at MACA.  It's a wonderful place to find the perfect Christmas, birthday, or anyday gift for a friend or for oneself - or to see a play!

May you all have a wonderful Christmas season.

Betty, when I saw this on Facebook I was so excited and happy for her; for you; for the whole family. What a huge blessing to have this opportunity at such a young age. The drawings are simply brilliant! Congrats all around. And a VERY Merry Christmas to you and yours!

How cool is that! I was so surprised to see this but not surprised at Lydia's talent. Wonderful news.

Don't bother to check my blog...I am still MIA. Ha!
